Conquest History - August 28, 2003
Zack recently introduced me to Terrence, who has owned sixteen Starions and has worked on all of them. With his help, the oil burning condition was successfully addressed on this day (but not without a slight mishap). The procedure, including replacement of eight valve seals and of the valve cover gasket, was completed in under two hours.
The valve cover has been removed, exposing the rocker assembly.
The rocker assembly has been removed, exposing the camshaft and valve assemblies.
A spring compressor tool is used in the process of removing the valve springs.
An exposed valve stem, with corresponding jet valve assembly.
The valve cover, following removal. Inverted in this way, residual oil apparently leaked into the breather, clogging the filter. This resulted in an unnerving profusion of smoke from the engine bay when the car was first driven again, due to unequal pressure forcing oil to be spewed through the breather filter and/or seal. The breather filter was promptly replaced, correcting the condition.
